Immediate Dental Implants

An immediate dental implant is called such because patients are not required to wait a few weeks before the treatment is finished. There are several benefits that you can gain from having an immediate dental implant procedure when compared to that of traditional implants. Because of advancements in dental technology a patient can now confidently walk out of the dental office wearing new implants for teeth without having to wait a few months for the whole set of procedures to be completed. After reviewing the x-rays and examining your mouth, Dr. Farbod will inform you if an immediate implant is right for you.

What are Dental Implants?

The implants themselves are tiny titanium posts which are inserted into the jawbone where teeth are missing. These metal anchors act as tooth root substitutes. They are surgically placed into the jawbone. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. Small posts which protrude through the gums are then attached to the implants. These posts provide stable anchors for your General Dentist to reconstruct your bite with artificial replacement teeth. If you have a denture, it can be connected to implants to improve stability and function. Implants also help preserve facial structure, preventing the bone deterioration that occurs when teeth are missing.

The Surgical Procedure

The procedure starts with creating a hole in the patient’s jaw bone in order to make room for the implant. After this, the implant is then fitted with the crown that is either made of porcelain or ceramic. In most cases, the removal of teeth is performed under local anesthesia, IV sedation or general anesthesia. These options, as well as the possible surgical risks, will be discussed with you before the procedure is performed. Afterwards, you will rest under our supervision in the office until you are ready to be taken home
